Présentation du contenu

The Kantapurāṇakatai appears to be a prose epitome of the Kantapurāṇam of Kacciyappa Civācāriyar, departing somehow from this version. For instance, at the end of Kacciyappa Civācāriyar’s, after marrying Vaḷḷi, Murukaṉ brings her near the Kailāsa mountain, introduces her to his first spouse Teyvayāṉai, and the three of them live afterwards in harmony. In the present Kantapurāṇakkatai, Murukaṉ and Vaḷḷi join Teyvayāṉai in Centippaṭṭaṇam (f48v10), that is Centil/Tiruccentūr, where they all live happily.

The codex contains successively:

• 1 thick front colour guard folio.

• 1 front guard folio inscribed “Tamoul n° 338” in pencil.

• 1 folio, with library foliation 1 in Arabic numerals in ink on the top right corner.

• 47 folios, library foliation 2–48 in Arabic numerals in ink and parallel Tamil foliation 1–47 on the top right corner. Lay-out in two columns, with catch-letters at the bottom right of each column

• 2 back guardfolios.

• 1 thick back colour guard folio.

A small paper leaf inscribed "KandapourânaKatai Tamoul" is bound in the volume between f1 and f2.

The text is complete.

Paratexts: title, catch-letters, text completion statement.
