Manuscript (palm-leaf bundle; composite manuscript) in Tamil.
No internal date. Before 1855, as it is part of Ariel’s bequest made in that year to the Société Asiatique, Paris (Rosny 1869).
South India, Tamilnadu. Palm-leaf. Excellent state of preservation. Very few bore holes caused by insects. 90 folios (1 + 37 + 1 + 1 + 37 + 10 + 3). 300 x 30 mm (U1, U2a, U2b), 285 x 30 mm (U3a), 290 x 30 mm (U3b, U3c, U4). Tamil script. Woodcovers apparently fabricated in the BnF.

The palm-leaf bundle, a composite manuscript, contains between the two woodcovers:

U1: 1 folio, unfoliated = title-page, by hand n° 1. With shelfmark: C/45. This title-page does not correspond to the content of the bundle: the Piḷḷaiyār Akaval and the Caravaṇapavaṉ Tōttiram are not found.

Unmarked puḷḷi, ō, and ē restored. Conjectural (whether the text is not clearly legible or the character is ambigous, e.g. kāl or length of o and e) readings between parentheses. Alternative readings between parentheses separated by slash. Lost or entirely illegible character: "?". Crossed-out character: "X". Conjectural restoration of lost or entirely illegible between square brackets. Uppercase for initial vowels (in excerpts only). Unquoted text represented by (...). Conjunct letter: e.g. , to be read tum or tam. Grantha letters in bold. Symbol between curly brackets: {pcs} = piḷḷaiyār cuḻi, short form; {pcl} = piḷḷaiyār cuḻi, long form, that is, with long horizontal stroke towards right. Abbreviations made explicit, between curly brackets, e.g {mācam}. Line-filler: {line-filler}. Unfoliated folio number between square brackets, e.g. "f[1]r". Numerals normalised to decimal notation, e.g. "1121" not "1000 1 100 2 10 1". Hyphen occasionaly used to mark in-word components. Hyphen systematically used at the end of a line when the line-beginning is within a word or within a cīr. Sandhi split to the minimum: overshort u occasionally restored as an apostrophe.
